Some dreams begin with a single moment. Ours began sixteen years ago on a tiny Caribbean island called St. John.
My husband and I first discovered the island while searching for the perfect place to get married. We immediately fell in love with its clear water, green hillsides, friendly people, and peaceful pace of life. The following year, we were married at a villa overlooking the Caribbean Sea.
“Someday, we’ll own a villa here.”
We had no idea it would take sixteen years. But we kept returning—sometimes once a year, sometimes twice—exploring beaches, trails, restaurants, and every part of the island we could. Each trip made the dream more meaningful.
Then our daughter was born, and St. John became part of her childhood. She snorkeled with sea turtles, spotted donkeys and goats along the road, collected shells, watched hermit crabs race, and ended the day beneath those unforgettable sunsets. What began as our dream became a family dream.
Finding our place
In 2021, we started looking seriously for a villa of our own. We wanted a place where other families could make the kinds of memories we had made here. Having restored neglected properties throughout our careers, we knew we could see potential where others saw work.
When we visited this villa in Upper Carolina, we knew. The sweeping view across Coral Bay Harbor to the British Virgin Islands, the oversized pool, the privacy, and the location were everything we had hoped for. The house needed care, but we could picture what it could become.
Sixteen years after making that promise, Beyond A Dream became a reality. Every improvement has been guided by one question: What would make this the vacation our own family would never forget?
We hope you fall in love with St. John, too.
We love the beaches, of course. We also love the island itself: the donkeys wandering freely, goats stopping traffic, sea turtles gliding through the water, and sunsets that seem to outdo themselves every evening. Life moves a little slower here.
